The Prince Kyoto Takaragaike
Architectural Beauty Defined by Curves, and a Stay in Tune with Seasons
Just 20 minutes by subway from Kyoto Station, The Prince Kyoto Takaragaike is nestled amid the abundant nature of the Rakuhoku area and is renowned as a masterpiece designed in the later years of Togo Murano, one of the great masters of Japanese architecture. Defined by graceful curves, the architecture has a distinctive presence that seems to gently embrace those who visit.
In the hotel premises, there is a Sukiya-style Traditional Japanese Tea House nestled beside a Japanese garden, offering guests a special opportunity to enjoy kaiseki cuisine while experiencing the changing beauty of the seasons. From the windows of the spacious guest rooms, views extend across the mountains of Rakuhoku and the garden’s seasonal scenery, while the Club Floors on the 7th and 8th floors offer an elevated stay with access to an exclusive lounge and special privileges.
A Circular Project Connecting Community and Culture
In 2026, as the hotel celebrates its 40th anniversary, it launched a new initiative centered on the themes of the “circle,” a defining motif of Togo Murano’s architecture, and the concept of “circulation” embodied in the SDGs. At the heart of the project is a symbolic tree that grows together with the participation of guests. Felled and fallen trees, as well as bamboo generated through the maintenance of local bamboo groves, are given new life as objects and works of art. Kimono fabric remnants provided by Ando Doll Shop, a long-established local maker of traditional Kyoto dolls, are also reborn as ornaments, helping to carry the region’s traditional culture into the future. Through guest participation, these materials continue to evolve as “growing” works of art, weaving a story unique to the hotel that brings together en (縁), the bonds connecting people, en (縁), the bonds connecting communities, and en (円), the circle representing the circulation of resources.
