Hakone Yunohana Prince Hotel
A Highland Hot Spring Retreat Embraced by Forest and Sky
Hakone Yunohana Prince Hotel stands at an elevation of 935 meters, the highest location among Hakone’s renowned hot springs. Set on a tranquil highland surrounded by magnificent nature, this hot spring hotel offers a sense of comfort as though you were above the clouds. Guests can choose between the serenity of traditional Japanese-style rooms and the comfort of Japanese-Western rooms with beds -- enjoy a leisure stay imbued with the warmth and hospitality of a traditional Japanese inn.
Embraced by the Gentle Milky-White Water and the Colors of the Seasons
The hot spring, a symbol of the hotel, features rare milky-white water that is renowned as a “beautifying hot spring.” In May 2025, the entire hot spring area was renovated with a new design that blends seamlessly into the natural surroundings. Slate flagstone is used for the bathtubs and granite for their edges, creating a warm, inviting space invoking the feeling that the milky-white water is welling up naturally from the earth. The open-air bath, where guests can soak while gazing up at a starry night sky, offers a sense of tranquility unique to this setting.
After enjoying the open-air bath, take a post-bath stroll as the pleasant night breeze gently cools your warmed body. Refresh both body and mind as you bask in negative ions in the nature-filled courtyard. At the restaurant, guests can enjoy seasonal Japanese cuisine in an open and relaxing setting overlooking a Japanese garden, savoring the flavors of Hakone as the scenery changes with the seasons.
Harnessing the Gifts of the Earth: Sustainable Practices at Yunohana
The hotel promotes its own sustainability initiatives designed to make the fullest possible use of its hot spring resources. Yunohanasawa Onsen uses a system known as a “steam-created hot spring,” in which steam at approximately 180°C rising from 350 meters underground is combined with mountain stream water to produce hot spring water. Steam from the hotel’s own hot spring source is used not only to create the hot spring water, but also for heating, cooling and hot water supply throughout the hotel, as well as for binary power generation. Together, they have significantly reduced CO₂ emissions. In the kitchen, mountain stream water is also used for cooling, as part of the hotel’s ongoing efforts to circulate and make effective use of the area’s natural resources.
The hotel also offers seasonal experiences such as “Yunohana Yugaku,” where guests can learn about the steam-utilization system that has been in operation for 37 years, as well as special programs that explore hot springs from a scientific perspective (the contents change per season). This winter, under the theme of “beautiful skin,” an experiment is planned to examine how hot spring components may help suppress and remove melanin. By scientifically exploring the effects of Yunohana’s hot spring water on the skin, guests can gain a deeper and more accessible appreciation of Japan’s rich hot spring culture.
The tranquil highland air, rare milky-white hot spring water, and a hot spring culture rooted in harmony with nature—a stay here invites you to discover the charms of Hakone at a leisurely pace. Surrounded by the stillness of the forest, embark on a journey that takes you deeper into the heart of Hakone.
