Kikusuitei(Ryokan)
A Tranquil Time to Admire the Moon Rising over Lake
Located on the shores of Lake Tama, just 50 minutes from central Tokyo, Kikusuitei is a lakeside inn with all its guest rooms having a lake view. Its name is derived from the phrase "Mizu wo kiku sureba tsuki te ni ari" ("When you scoop up water, the moon rests in your hands") from the Tang Dynasty Chinese poem "Spring Mountain Night Moon", expressing the tranquil beauty of a scene in which the moon is reflected on the water. Designed by architect Yoshiro Ikehara, the building is characterized by its light steel structure and distinctive triangular roof. Its Western-inspired silhouette blends harmoniously with the natural surroundings of Lake Tama, creating a striking presence along the peaceful lakeshore. When the sky is clear, you can enjoy the view of Mt. Fuji. In the changing seasons, views of the lake surface and surrounding nature will enrich every moment of your journey.
A Lakeside Inn Named After the Moon Reflecting on Water
All 21 guest rooms feature lake views, allowing you to relax while surrounded by abundant natural beauty. In addition to Japanese-style and Western-style rooms, the hotel also offers Japanese-Western rooms featuring beds on tatami flooring, combining the traditional atmosphere of a ryokan inn with the comfort of Western-style bedding. The softness of tatami mats and the gentle light filtering through shoji screens create an unmistakably Japanese ambiance. Enjoy a relaxing stay while enjoining the views of the shimmering lake and the changing scenery throughout the seasons.
Seasonal Cuisine and a Relaxing Bath Infused with the Aroma of Tea
The Chinese restaurant Tengaiten, specializing in Shanghai-style cuisine, serves beautifully presented dishes prepared with seasonal ingredients. With its open setting overlooking Lake Tama through large windows, it is a place where dining itself becomes one of the pleasures of the journey. The bathhouse features both a spacious indoor bath and an open-air bath, using a bath salt infused with Sayama tea, the region's signature Japanese tea. You can enjoy bathing while surrounded by the delicate aroma of tea. Surrender yourself to the tranquility of the lakeside and the soothing hot waters, and spend a relaxing time restoring both body and soul in nature, just a short distance from central Tokyo.
Moon-Inspired Touches for an Autumn Stay
This autumn, Kikusuitei invites you to enjoy moon-themed experiences throughout the property, inspired by the “moonlit scene” reflected in its name. The restaurant offers special moon-themed dinners and cocktails, while the lobby lounge serves an original Japanese confection inspired by "the moon rising over Lake Tama", created by the long-established local Japanese confectionery shop Kashin Kamedaya, with a different confection served each day.
At Kikusuitei in autumn, the tranquility of the lakeside and the moonlit scenery gently soothe the soul. Surrender yourself to the breeze of Lake Tama and enjoy a peaceful escape from the daily hustle and bustle.
