This Mauna Kea Resort is an expansive 1,800-acre retreat features two renowned hotels—the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort. Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, situated on the picturesque Kohala Coast of the Island of Hawai’i, is a historic gem originally developed by Laurance S. Rockefeller in 1965. With each gracing its own pristine natural beaches. The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is particularly celebrated for its architectural design that harmonizes with the island's natural beauty, as well as its impressive collection of artwork. Over the years, it has become a cherished destination for many returning guests.

In April 2026, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel completed an extensive transformation, including renovated guestrooms and pool areas as well as newly built spa, oceanfront adults infinity lap pool and fitness facilities, further elevating the resort’s level of comfort and sophistication. SPA AT MAUNA KEA
The all-new SPA AT MAUNA KEA features eleven indoor and outdoor treatment rooms, separate steam sauna rooms for men and women, and a co-ed wellness deck complete with a jacuzzi and lush garden, a purification garden with hot and cold plunge pools. Designed to blend indoor and outdoor spaces seamlessly, the spa offers a calming environment where you can unwind not only during your treatment but long after, leaving both body and mind refreshed.
Guest Rooms and Suites
To elevate the resort’s luxury experience, all guestrooms in both the Main Tower and Beachfront Wing have been thoughtfully renovated. While preserving iconic elements such as the spacious lanais and the stone flooring of the Beachfront Wing, the refreshed interiors now feature rich wood finishes and handcrafted textile accents inspired by Hawai‘i’s weaving and quilting traditions.

A new fitness center of approximately 2,500 square feet, equipped with state‑of‑the‑art training technology, has been added alongside an adults‑only infinity lap pool with a spacious lanai. Golf
Mauna Kea Golf Course has long captivated golfers from around the world with its dramatic natural terrain, breathtaking scenery, and strategic design—including the iconic third hole played across the ocean. In the latest renovation, the course’s historic character has been carefully preserved while the fairways, greens, and bunkers have been completely refreshed.
Dine
The interiors and menus of our signature restaurant “Manta,” as well as the beachfront dining venue “Hau Tree,” have been newly refreshed.
Kids’ Area
A new kids’ area has been created on previously unused grounds within the resort, surrounded by native Hawaiian plants and designed to offer children an engaging space where they can experience the island’s nature and cultural heritage.
Art
More than 500 historically significant artworks—valued at over one million dollars—have been carefully restored in collaboration with leading institutions, including the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, and reinstalled throughout the resort’s public spaces.
Sustainability
The resort has introduced “Ulu Garden,” an approximately 2,600‑square‑meter organic growing area cultivating more than 25 varieties of produce. Freshly harvested vegetables and herbs are incorporated into dishes served at the resort’s restaurants, supporting a sustainable, locally sourced dining experience. Additional initiatives include the installation of solar panels, water‑filling stations in all guestrooms, and complimentary reusable water bottles.

Mauna Kea Golf Course
The 18-hole golf course has established Hawaii's golf community for several generations. Hole 3 is a famously difficult hole that requires an accurate stroke to navigate the strong coastal winds. Try your hand at a shot over the ocean with a spectacular view of the cliffs bordering the fairway and the ocean, with a coast view from the cliffs!

Hapuna Golf Course
In 1997, the U.S. Golf Association named Hapuna Golf Course the “Course of the Future.” This 18-hole championship course is built along the undulating natural terrain, approximately 200 meters off the coastline. Spectacular views of the Kohala Coast and Pacific Ocean with Mauna Kea in the background.
